SCALP RECONSTRUCTION

SCALP RECONSTRUCTION ASDA 1

The scalp is a vital part of the body that covers the cranial bones and protects the brain from external factors. Two main reasons for scalp reconstruction are Congenital or acquired. Damage to this structure, such as from trauma, burns, radiation, tumor, alopecia or cosmetically displeasing scars can result in burning of scalp, increased hair loss, reddened skin, swelling of face or deformity. Scalp reconstruction is a surgical procedure performed to treat people with scalp defects.

Techniques used for scalp reconstruction

  • check-mark-1 Granulation (secondary intention)
  • check-mark-1 Advancement flap
  • check-mark-1 Rotational Flap
  • check-mark-1 Transpositional flap
  • check-mark-1 Skin Grafts
  • check-mark-1 Free flaps
  • check-mark-1 Allograft

The selection of one or a combination of methods depends upon skin laxity, wound depth, patients habits and general health.
