Dr Jyoshid R Balan is a well known Plastic and cosmetic surgeon from the “God’s own country” Kerala, which is situated in southern part of India. He is a board certified plastic surgeon who performs cosmetic surgeries, brachial plexus and peripheral nerve surgeries and has special interest in rhinoplasty, breast reduction and augmentation and gynaecomastia surgeries. When you ask him what is his positive character he very well answers “hard work and being perfect”. He had a humble beginning in his life and career, he has studied his schooling from a Government School in a remote village in Kerala, India. Education
He has undergone his training in surgery and plastic surgery from the most prestigious institutions of India. He has done his bachelor degree in medicine (MBBS) from one of the largest and oldest medical college in India, Government Medical College , Calicut in 2003. He has mastered his General Surgery degree (MS General Surgery) from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, India in the year 2008. He did hissuperspeciality training in plastic surgery (MCh Plastic Surgery )from the prestigious Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India in the year 2012. While working in his current institution he has attained an additional qualification of DNB Plastic Surgery from National Board of Education, India in the year 2014. After finishing his superspeciality training in 2012 December from PGI,Chandigarh he joined as a consultant in one of the famous tertiary level Centre in South India, Sushrutha Institute of Plastic Reconsstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Thrissur. During these years he has done an ample number of facial cosmetic surgeries like rhinoplasty, genioplasty, chin augmentation by implant placement, cheek augmentation, facelift, neck lift, facial fat grafting, blepharoplasty, lip augmentation, jaw correction, ear corrections, double chin correction by liposuction and revision surgeries. He is a master of minimal scar gynaecomastia orrection. In body contouring procedures he does abdominoplasty, mommy make over, abdominal liposuction, flank and back lipsuction and post bariatric surgery corrections. Breast reduction surgery, according to Dr Jyoshid is not only aesthetic surgery but also functional surgery to get rid of neck pain, back pain andother difficulties due to heavy breasts. He uses the best possible techniques andimplants in case of breast augmentation. His skills extends to adult brachialplexus surgeries, birth brachial plexus surgeries, peripheral nerve surgeries, cleft lip and palate surgeries, hand surgeries and limb reconstruction surgeries. He always emaphais the importance of being up to date to his juniors and staffs. As an academician he has published a number of articles in reputed national and international journals. He also had written chapters in international text book published by Thieme publishers. Dr. Jyoshid has been continuously involved in various Research and professional activities. He also has an experience of training and teaching the senior residents of various reputed institutions like JIPMER, PGIMER. Dr.Jyoshid has been actively organizing plastic surgery confereces in Institute level and State level. He has also reviewed variousnational and international journals.Dr Jyoshid is an active member of, Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (IAAPS), Association of Plastic Surgeons of India. (APSI), IndianSociety for reconstructive microsurgery (ISRM), Indian Society for the Surgeons of Hand (ISSH) , Indian Medical Association. MY PHILOSOPHY
I always believe in giving the best possible cosmetic as well as functional results to my clients and patients. It feels difficult in the initial period but with perseverance, knowledge and basic surgical skills it is always possible. I always think of improving the care and result we give, which is possible by getting feedback from staffs, my colleagues and most importantly my patients and clients. A good listener always becomes a good human being and good administrator. My willingness to listen to the people around me helps a lot to improve as a surgeon and person. In my career, I follow the policy “ when doing something do it properly”. For doing something properly its always necessary to be up to date and knowledgable.The best way to do it by reading, attending conferences and giving talks, never leave an opportunity to learn. I also think that through social media, we will be able to do spread awareness of plastic and cosmetic surgery to the common man. I always put myself in my patients shoes and think and make a management protocol accordingly, which gives me the best possible results. The xpectations of the client and patient should be well understood and I always make them realize the best possible outcome, before going for any procedures.
